The IO Center core team recently visited Shell operation center in Kristiansund, to learn about their operational practices and discuss further collaboration on IO development and implementation. Shell has participated in several IO Center R&D activities, both locally and through the global Smart Field project.

The two O&G fields Draugen and Ormen Lange operated by A/S Norske Shell have in the course of the last six years worked systematically to enhance production and availability, utilizing concepts of Lean Manufacturing and Collaborative Work Environment (Integrated Operations).  This includes innovation of work processes, organizational culture and information tools.

The two assets recently were awarded one of the yearly Shell UI Impact Awards in the “Production Optimization” category, for the upgrade of the collaborative work environment at Draugen, Nyhamna and in Kristiansund. The focus for the project was on user friendly technology and integration of operational work processes and technology that would result in improved business outcomes such as availability, reliability and cost.

Through their efforts the team has gained trust and respect on the asset which has enabled the team to build speed, quality and pride in the maintenance and operations processes while reducing costs.
