The underlying idea is to develop concepts and methods for improved decision support and test these in close-to-real situations. We use of models, optimization and data as a basis to develop valuable advice to improve decision making. 1) In the subsurface domain this relates to reservoir management where we are working with IO center partners to improve and assess methods for well location, and production and injection strategies. 2) In daily operation we develop and test methods to improve monitoring capabilities and to optimize production, by for instance finding routing and production choke setting that maximizes oil production for a given asset.

In the reservoir domain the main activities have been in history matching using a variety of data sources, like 4D seismic data and production data, and production optimization. This will benefit long term recovery and it also facilitates closer cooperation between the subsurface disciplines like geophysicists and reservoir engineers. Some examples of IO center case studies are a well location project together with Total E&P Norge, a study on the link between long term optimization and daily operation in cooperation with Petrobras, and the Norne project with Statoil.

In the operations domain we have developed methods for production optimization which are significantly more efficient than existing methods. This enables the use of mathematical optimization and realtime data for (real) realtime decision making. Some examples of IO center case studies are a daily production optimization with BP and Petrobras.
