Integrated Operations will change the way people interact and solve problems in the petroleum industry. The purpose of this report has been to provide insights from the world of video gaming that can aid the transition to collaborative work processes supported by modern information and communication technology under IO. We have identified four areas where IO may have something to learn from the video game industry: (1) the application of visualization and interaction technologies, (2) the transfer of knowledge about video game design and gameplay to facilitate collaborative work, (3) the development of video games that can serve as elements in the IO work process, and (4) the use of video games for recruitment, marketing and communication. Industrial gaming will hopefully take its form when these areas are explored further and utilized systematically within Integrated Operations.
