This report explains how information and visualization design should be seen as a means of improving decision making and work processes in Integrated Operations. It aims to raise awareness of general and special design issues in an IO context, and outlines some high-level design principles and practical advice. In addition to pointing to relevant established knowledge, the report also identifies the need for further research focusing on how designs may support collaborative and multidisciplinary activities. These are topics that are being addressed in the IO Center research plans for the coming years, and this report will be updated and expanded based on the experiences and findings from this research.
