This is a preliminary report of the "IO1 Teamwork" activity within the Center for integrated operations in the petroleum industry. The research activity is undertaken to study teamwork challenges faced by organizations that have implemented integrated operations, and to provide recommendations on how to achieve effective collaboration. Teamwork is a useful and necessary way of working when the task demands knowledge, experience or competence that is not possessed by one person alone. In IO organisations, multi-disciplinary teams bring together diverse views, discipline-specific information and skills to produce better informed decisions. This way of working can solve the complex tasks of oil and gas production more effectively than the more traditional approach of individuals or homogeneous groups working in a serial manner. The present study address the question of how effective and resilient collaboration can be achieved in IO teams. We use findings from the case studies to identify the challenges faced by IO teams and discuss how such teams may support effective and resilient collaboration.
