Abstract

Integrated Operations implies new ways for organizing work, new work processes and increased automation, e.g. closer collaboration offshore-onshore, cooperation across organizational and geographical borders and use of integrated contractors. The overall objective for this paper is to explore the effects on the major accident potential for the petroleum industry on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, related to new conditions for situational awareness as a result of Integrated Operations The more specific scope is to explore whether the findings from a study of a specific asset and its’ IO practice and organization actually validate an a priori theoretical analysis of the implications of IO in terms of potential for major accidents. The finding of the paper to a large degree reaffirms the beforehand anticipated effects
