Drilling and Well Construction

The key components of the Drilling and Well Construction program are: Integrated drilling simulator with virtual well bore and visualization; Real time automated interpretation, diagnostics and decision support; Utilization of increased bandwidth from borehole; New work processes, training simulator and experience transfer.

Integrated Drilling Simulator with Virtual Wellbore

Objectives:
- Integrated drilling Simulator with 3D Visualization shall be demonstrated and tested in order to show value creation and increased safety.
- Well stability and pore pressure models should be integrated into the real time environment
- Improved drilling procedures to enhance data quality and improve drilling performance

Automated Interpretation, Diagnostics and Advisory in Real Time

Objectives
The purpose is to develop knowledge and methodology for improved and automatic decision support and knowledge transfer during well construction

Work Processes and Experience Transfer

Objectives
To develop knowledge, methods and solutions for innovative integrated work process development (IWD) in drilling emphasizing capabilities for team based collaboration across disciplines and locations and enabled by innovative use of eDrilling and new collaboration technology.
To Enable the industrial partner companies to be frontrunners on new and improved work processes including innovative modes of working enabled by the eDrilling as a platform for implementing the required change process toward the G2-level in drilling.

Utilization of Increased Bandwidth from Borehole

Objectives
The main goal is to hasten the introduction of wired drillpipe into the drilling industry. We have investigated the potential for improved drilling, well control, and geo-steering. The next phase will look at the bottlenecks that might delay or impede improvements.

The project will observe an upcoming wired drillpipe well in the North Sea. Focus will be three-fold:

  • Are the technical possibilities achieved?
  • How can new data be utilized for better well & pressure control and drilling optimization?
  • How can work processes be improved to make better use of the technology?
  • How can the Integrated Drilling Simulator be adapted to the new scenario?
